New Zealand is an extraordinary country, bursting with great economic potential. Sure, we have our problems, but in comparison to most other nations we are less restricted by our history and our canvas has yet to be filled.
In a time when every kiwi should have enjoyed the benefits of a more affluent and growing economy, our living standards have continued to fall. Despite working harder, home ownership is more elusive now than ever before. Educational standards have slipped with nearly one in five children leaving school unable to read and write adequately. Our healthcare is in crisis as Doctors, Nurses, and medical technicians seek more prosperous options overseas. We are losing over seven hundred well educated, innovative and hard-working people a week. And more people are now dependent on government for an increasing portion of their income than ever before. We desperately need a change in direction.
I am appalled at the seeming lack of ambition and trust the present government has for the public; the abdication of responsibility in dealing with the real-life problems of our communities; and especially the continuing abysmal failure to deal with rising crime.
The last decade has brought with it many changes - some good, some less so. Most concerning to me is what i believe to be the greatest danger to our individual freedom and liberty: the encroaching intrusiveness of the nanny-state. The euphemistically described 'Social democracy' which underpins the present Labour regime has increasingly spread its tentacles masquerading as the heartbeat of the common good and has been enforced upon us by the political evangelism of its advocates. Many of whom do not understand, nor want to understand, that you cannot provide freedom to all by extinguishing it in the individual. To insist on absolute certainty before starting to apply ethics to life decisions is a shorthand way of simply choosing to be unprincipled.
If you're as fed-up as I am by the present government - whose solutions are as bad or worse than the problems they attempt to solve; or are angry about being told what to do and how to live (Smacking Bill; Fart-tax; Micro-chipping dogs etc), then please contact me. Let me know that you too want a change for a better tomorrow.
Together, I believe we can make a difference that matters.
I look forward to working with you...
